Intangible cultural heritage of the Portugal-Spain border: a contribution from language documentation

This paper describes the audio-visual corpus developed within the research project Spanish-Portuguese border: linguistic and bibliographic documentation (FRONTESPO). This contribution intends to demonstrate its vast potential for the safeguarding and the study of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Portugal-Spain border, both as regards the rich linguistic landscape of this territory, as well as ethnographic materials, information on traditional life and memories linked to the border: smuggling, cross-border immigration, and the like. The first phase of the oral corpus has explored nine survey areas distributed along the entire border, with diverse geographic and linguistic characteristics. Each area comprises normally two pairs of Spanish and Portuguese localities, and within each locality, at least three persons are interviewed. FRONTESPO is firmly committed with open access; therefore, all the interviews will be freely available on the net. In this way, the team seeks to maximize the scientific impact, and to facilitate return to border communities.
Este artigo descreve o corpus audiovisual desenvolvido no âmbito do projeto de investigação da fronteira hispano-portuguesa: documentação linguística e bibliográfica (FRONTESPO). Esta contribuição visa demonstrar o vasto potencial deste projeto para a salvaguarda e o estudo do Património Cultural Imaterial da fronteira Portugal-Espanha quer no que se refere à rica paisagem linguística deste território, quer no que se refere a materiais etnográficos, informação sobre modos de vida tradicionais e memórias da fronteira: contrabando, imigração clandestina e aspetos similares. A primeira fase de constituição do corpus oral pesquisou nove áreas distribuídas ao longo de toda a fronteira, com características geográficas e linguísticas diversificadas. Cada área envolveu, normalmente, dois pares de localidades Espanholas e Portuguesas e, em cada localidade, foram entrevistadas pelo menos três pessoas. O FRONTESPO está firmemente empenhado no acesso aberto; consequentemente, todas as entrevistas estão disponíveis na internet sem restrições. Deste modo a equipa procura maximizar o impacto científico e facilitar a devolução dos conteúdos às comunidades fronteiriças.
